Römerswil is a hamlet in the Swiss municipality of St. Ursen in the canton of Friborg . Römerswil is 700  m above sea level. M. on the plateau south of the Galterngraben on the border with the Bürglen district of the city of Freiburg .

Surname

Originally the hamlet was called Remletswil . The form Remoltswil and similar spellings are also documented. Due to the discovery of a Roman amphora in the area of ​​Römerswil, the name of the hamlet was changed, even if a Roman settlement has not yet been proven.

history

In Römerswil there were initially two manors, one of which had been owned by the Vonderweid family since 1625, the other belonged to the Montenachs. The latter also came into the possession of the Vonderweid family in the second half of the 18th century. The common property was then divided between the brothers Joseph and Philipp along the road from Freiburg to Tentlingen , where Joseph got the part above the road with the upper castle and Philipp the lower castle with the land below the street. Today the goods are privately owned by immigrant Bern families.
