Rübezahl Museum
The Rübezahl Museum opened in Görlitz in May 2005 , but was temporarily closed in April 2006 after the death of its founder, Ingrid Vettin-Zahn. In accordance with the founder's wish, the museum and the Rübezahl collection were donated to the Silesian Heimatstuben Foundation, which will continue to run it.
The stories about the Silesian ruler of the Jizera and Giant Mountains Rübezahl , known far beyond the national borders, have been told for more than 400 years. His stories are said to have been spread in 40 countries as early as the 17th century. Even today, Rübezahl is one of the most famous fairy tales and legends . The fact that there is hardly a mountain spirit in the world with so many stories to tell is testified by the many exhibits in the new Görlitz Rübezahl collection.
Founder
Born in Silesia, Ingrid Vettin-Zahn (1938 - April 10, 2006) had fulfilled her long-cherished wish to make her collection around the myth of Rübezahl accessible to the public. Since she was expelled from her hometown of Lauban in 1945 , she collected everything that had to do with the mountain spirit Rübezahl and brought it to her private museum in Görlitz. She moved back to her Silesian homeland to spend the evening of her life close to her birthplace and the mountain spirit. She died unexpectedly on April 10, 2006 in Switzerland. Her last wish to be buried in Görlitz could be granted. Her final resting place is in the city cemetery.
Exhibits
The Rübezahl exhibits include the following categories:

The permanent presence of the Rübezahl collection is supplemented by special exhibitions, guided tours, lectures, seminars, Rübezahl - purchase - exchange, projects for schoolchildren, students and collectors as well as research projects in the field of fairy tale and legend research.
The Rübezahl-Museum Görlitz sees itself as a meeting place for cross-border activities around Rübezahl, Liczyrzepa and Krakanos.
