Caterpillar 6090

The Caterpillar 6090 (until 2012 RH 400 ) is a large hydraulic excavator from the US mechanical engineering company Caterpillar . It is used in opencast mining and is currently (as of November 2019), with an operating weight of 980 tons and an output of 4570 hp, the largest hydraulic excavator available on the construction machinery market. Only the follow-up model 6120 from Caterpillar is larger with an operating weight of 1270 tons . However, this hydraulic excavator is currently only a prototype.

history

It was originally developed by Orenstein & Koppel (O&K) and presented in 1997. After O&K was taken over by Terex , the excavator was also referred to as Terex RH 400 or Terex O&K RH 400 (this division of Terex was later taken over by Bucyrus , which in turn is now owned by Caterpillar ). The production location was Dortmund .

From 2012 to 2018 the excavator was in Bucyrus -Werk in South Milwaukee ( Wisconsin produced). As of 2019, production was relocated back to Dortmund.
