The locomotives of the series RSR 501 were mainline diesel locomotives of the Thai state railway .

history

As early as the early 1930s, the Thai State Railways (SRT), at the time still “Royal State Railways of Siam” (RSR), began to diesel long-distance trains to the north and south on their meter-gauge network. At the same time as an order for six locomotives (identical to DSB MX 131-132) and six railcars to the Danish company Frichs, an order for six diesel-electric locomotives was also placed with the Swiss Sulzer Brothers. An 8-cylinder engine from Sulzer with an output of 450 hp was installed, the mechanical part came from Henschel (serial numbers 21825 to 21830/1931, wheel arrangement (A1A) '(A1A)' - de), the electrical components were supplied by Oerlikon . After test drives on the Rhaetian Railway, the machines came into service in Thailand as RSR 501 to RSR 506.

Use and whereabouts

The locomotives seem to have proven themselves and only recorded longer idle times during and after the war due to a lack of spare parts procurement. Except for one loss in the war, all came to the now nationalized Mae Klong Railway ( Thai ทาง รถไฟ สาย แม่ กลอง ) in the 1950s , which starts in Bangkok's southwest at Wongwian Yai Railway Station. At two end points of this train are well-known markets directly in the station area, where the sunshades are folded away shortly before the train arrives. On these two isolated subnets with their lighter services, they were used together with other veterans until around 1977. Then two more machines, 504 and 505, came to the cement factory Jalaprathan near Cha-am , 25 km north of Hua Hin , for further use as factory locomotives . With the takeover of the shareholder Italcementi in Jalaprathan Cement (JCC) in 2016, HeidelbergCement is now a partner in the plant there. Both locomotives are said to have been in use here until the early 1990s and until they were replaced by smaller B-couplers. The factory connection has now been completely shut down.

After they were shut down, both machines initially remained on the factory premises. Around 2008, 505 became a kind of memorial and used as a conference room in the factory, while her sister 504 ended up at a scrap dealer. Both were robbed of their engines in the meantime. The 505 that was left in the factory, or what was left of it, was repainted in 2016. 504 finally landed in Bangkok in March 2016. There it was initially set up at the smaller Kaset-Nawamin night market in Bangkok's northeast. Less than a year later she started her probably last trip and at the beginning of 2017 was at the large Rod Fai (Train) Night Market on 51 Soi Srinagarindra in the Khwaeng Nong Bon district of Bangkok / Khet Prawet - also known as the Srinakarin Train Market - in direct Neighborhood to Suang Luan Park Rama IX.
