Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation
The Rec (reational) Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation ( RSSSF ) is a private organization that collects football data. Its aim is to create a data archive that is as complete as possible and available on the Internet on the basis of minimally formatted text documents.
It all started in January 1994 with three members of the Rec.sport.soccer Usenet news group with the address alt.rec.sport.soccer : Lars Aarhus, Kent Hedlundh and Karel Stokkermans. It first came to be known as the North European Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation, but the geographic restriction was lifted when members were added from more countries. Anyone who is willing and able to contribute further data can become a member, especially on areas that have not yet been adequately covered. A board of 3 to 5 members decides on admission.
The RSSSF now has members and employees from all over the world and six sections have been created, which in particular collect data on the leagues and national teams of the respective countries. These projects deal with football in Albania , Brazil , Norway , Poland , Romania , and Uruguay , although only the Brazilian and Norwegian derivatives submit to the strict text format of the original RSSSF and not all of them successfully replicate the quality of the content. The archives of these sections are created in English or the respective national language.
The RSSSF data also serve as a source for Wikipedia lists and are often more up-to-date than data from, for example, FIFA or national associations.
