RTÉ 2fm (also 2FM ) is the 2nd radio program of the Irish national broadcaster Radio Telefís Éireann (RTÉ). It is broadcast in the FM band (almost exclusively) between 90 and 92 MHz. With its music mix of pop and rock, it is aimed more at a younger audience.

The station started in May 1979 as Radio 2 . The first piece of music played was "Like Clockwork" by the Boomtown Rats . The first words were spoken by Larry Gogan , who hosted his program Golden Hour until his death in January 2020 . In the mid-1980s, the station switched to 24-hour operation and changed its name to 2fm.

The morning talk show The Gerry Ryan Show was particularly well-known and was the most popular radio show in Ireland with over 400,000 daily listeners . Due to the surprising death of Gerry Ryan, the show has since been discontinued. The last Gerry Ryan Show aired on May 4, 2010 as a special on Ryan's death. It was moderated by Gerry's "outside reporter" Evelyn O'Rourke.

Financially, 2fm stands on its own two feet. The broadcaster does not receive any benefits in the form of license fees, like the parent company RTÉ. It is mainly financed through advertising and sponsorship .

2fm also broadcasts its program via the Internet and via satellite ( Astra 2D) 28.2 ° East, 10744 H, SR: 22000, FEC: 5/6.
