Mission overview
The originally mentioned start date of February 18 had to be dropped in favor of repairs (including liquid oxygen pumps for the main engines). On the start day itself, high winds and ground fog were responsible for a delay of 110 minutes.
In addition to carrying out a large number of experiments, the mission had to deploy the TDRS-4 communications satellite . The astronauts also took pictures with a handheld IMAX camera.
The landing took place on March 18 at Edwards AFB , California . Discovery was transported back to Cape Canaveral , Florida six days later by special aircraft.
