The RUTAR Group is a family business operating in the furniture trade with its headquarters in Eberndorf, Austria. With the sales channels RUTAR and DIPO, the company is represented by 14 furniture stores in Austria, Slovenia and Italy.
history
The history of the RUTAR Group begins in 1961 with the establishment of a shop in Eberndorf . In 1985 the Eberndorf central warehouse was set up and the RUTAR Eberndorf extension was added. Two years later, the AVE Möbel company was taken over in Villach. In 1991 the Schöffmann company in St. Veit was taken over and expanded. In 1998 the RUTAR expansion strategy began in Slovenia. Three years later, RUTAR Ljubljana joined the Union and opened. RUTAR Maribor opened in 2003. In the same year the DIPO sales channel started with the opening of DIPO Maribor and Kranj. Two years later, RUTAR Ljubljana was expanded, the central warehouse in Ljubljana was expanded and DIPO Ljubljana opened. In 2008 the opening of RUTAR Klagenfurt and DIPO Celje followed. A year later there was a fire in the Eberndorf furniture store. In 2010 the opening of DIPO Murska Sobota, in 2011 of DIPO Dravograd and in 2012 of DIPO Koper took place. In 2016 the first house in Italy, DIPO Udine, opened.
Today the multinational family company operates four houses in Carinthia in the second generation, is the market leader in Slovenia with nine locations and one house in Italy and employs around 1000 people.
In the major fire at the RUTAR headquarters in Eberndorf in April 2009, the exhibition and sales rooms were destroyed. Thanks to the deployment of 23 fire brigades with a total of 220 men and 35 vehicles from all over the district, personal injury was avoided. In addition, part of the building complex was saved, including the three floors of the administration wing. RUTAR Eberndorf was reopened almost nine months after the major fire.
Heavy hail and a storm damaged the roof and facade of RUTAR Villach badly in July 2015, the windows were smashed and there was a lot of water damage, which is why the furniture store had to be completely renovated. In October 2015, RUTAR Villach was reopened after the complete renovation.

At the beginning of 2012, a complete renovation program worth several million euros was completed in the Austrian furniture stores, and all furniture stores in Carinthia were completely modernized. According to the company, RUTAR Klagenfurt offers the largest kitchen exhibition in Carinthia, RUTAR Villach the largest kitchen exhibition in the region and RUTAR St. Veit is also equipped with exhibition space.
expansion
In 2001 RUTAR expanded across the border and opened a furniture store in Ljubljana with what it claims to be the largest kitchen show in Slovenia. In the following years RUTAR expanded to Maribor, Kranj and Celje. In 2012, the ninth location in Slovenia was finally opened in Koper. In 2016, the next step in expansion was taken with the opening of the first house in Italy.
Union association
In 2001 the RUTAR Group joined the Union purchasing association. The association has an annual turnover of four billion euros and secures preferential conditions with the furniture manufacturers.
