RWE Supply & Trading CZ is currently the largest natural gas trader and importer in the Czech Republic . RWE Supply & Trading CZ is a subsidiary of the German utility company RWE . The company emerged from the former company RWE Transgas .

background

In 2002, the German energy group RWE acquired a majority stake in the previously state-owned Czech company Transgas for EUR 4.1 billion, as well as shares in 4 regional gas companies. The acquisition of the shares in the National Asset Fund of the Czech Republic was one of the largest privatizations in the Czech Republic since the country's transition to a market economy. Since 2005 the company has operated under the name RWE Transgas.

As of 2007, all of RWE's activities in the Czech Republic were largely unbundled in accordance with EU requirements and in 2012 they were organized under the umbrella of the newly founded joint stock company RWE Česká republika, as . Thereafter, its subsidiary RWE Transgas acted purely as a gas wholesaler. The other subsidiaries Net4gas (formerly RWE Transgas Net ) and RWE Gas Storage ( natural gas storage operator) became separate companies under RWE Česká republika.

Net4Gas

As a transmission system operator, Net4Gas guarantees the transit of natural gas through the Czech Republic and the supply of domestic Czech customers with natural gas. Net4Gas owns the Czech part of the Transgas pipeline from Lanžhot , on the Czech-Slovakian border, to Olbernhau in Germany. As early as 1997, at the time of the former state-owned company Transgas, its market position in the transit business was weakened when the competing Yamal-Europe pipeline was put into operation. Another competitor is now the Nord Stream connection between Russia and Germany via the Baltic Sea .

In March 2013, RWE has the network operator Net4Gas for a purchase price of 1.6 billion euros to a consortium consisting of the German insurer Allianz and the Canadian infrastructure fund sells Borealis Infrastructure.
