RWTHextern - The Citizens' Forum is part of the Press and Communication Department, which, on behalf of the Rector of RWTH Aachen University, wants to create a connection between science and research at RWTH Aachen University and the citizens of the region in a variety of ways . Every semester, RWTHextern puts together an event program in which content from science, research and teaching is presented to the general public.

RWTHextern was founded in 1921 as an external institute of the Technical University with the original intention of giving the future engineers of the time a cultural look outside the box .

Nowadays, RWTHextern offers a variety of events aimed at the entire Aachen and regional public, the opportunity to gain insights into science and research at RWTH. In this way, the citizens' forum is supposed to play an important mediating role between the university, urban environment and the citizens of the region.

Series on the Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, Physics and Medicine at RWTH

The events organized by RWTHextern include: a. about panel discussions , visits to institutes, guided tours of the university campus, concerts, readings by authors , lectures and exhibitions. The events are often organized in cooperation with the various institutions of the city of Aachen.

The following series of events exist:

  • Discovery tours , in which a tour guide leads interested people through the university campus and provides exciting background information about the university,
  • Cultural laboratory , this includes exhibitions, lectures, theater performances, concerts and many other cultural events,
  • Uni im Rathaus , a series of events organized by the city and university, at which highly topical issues and controversial issues are discussed with experts,
  • In focus , in which a certain exciting topic is dealt with with a current reference,
  • Technology on tour , in which interesting institutes, workshops and laboratories of the RWTH Aachen can be visited and modern technology can be experienced up close,
  • Lecture series , which contain a series of lectures on a research topic,
  • Charlemagne Prize at RWTH , at which the designated Charlemagne Prize winner visits RWTH on the day before the award of the International Charlemagne Prize in Aachen,
  • LiteraTour , a format in which authors in demand visit the university and present their literary or scientific topics to the public in an entertaining way
  • Music LAB , a concert series in which the Aachen Symphony Orchestra performs in the workshops of various institutes.
