Alphonse Trent

Alphonse "Phonnie" E. Trent or Alphonso E. Trent (* 24. August 1905 , † 14. October 1959 in Fort Smith (Arkansas) ) was an American jazz - pianist and conducted a territory band of Swing .

Alphonse Trent played the piano as a child and worked in local bands in Arkansas from his youth. He led his first own formation in the mid-1920s (possibly from 1923). In 1924 he played with Eugene Cook's Synco Six and then took over the leadership of the band, which lasted until 1934. It was considered one of the most famous Territory Bands of the South and Midwest of the USA ; they also played on river steamers. In the mid-1930s, Trent initially left the music business, but returned to the scene with another band in 1938. In this orchestra later famous jazz musicians such as Terrence Holders , Alex Hill , Stuff Smith , Snub Mosley , Charlie Christian , Harry Sweets Edison , Mouse Randolph , George Hudson and Peanuts Holland played .

As a band leader, he only recorded eight pages; four in 1928, two in 1930 and two in 1933. After that he only worked temporarily with his own ensembles and was mainly a businessman.
