Mouse Randolph

Irvin "Mouse" Randolph (* 22. January 1909 in St. Louis , Missouri ; † 12. December 1997 ) was an American swing - and rhythm and blues - trumpeter .

Randolph played on river steamers with Fate Marable in the late 1920s , then worked with numerous Territory bands such as Walt Farrington , Willie Austin (1925/26), Art Sims (1926), Norman Mason (1926), Floyd Campbell (1927/28 ), Alphonse Trent (1928) and J. Frank Terry . Eventually came to Kansas City , where he was signed on for Andy Kirk's band Twelve Clouds of Joy from 1931 to 1933. In 1934 he played briefly in New York City in the band of Fletcher Henderson , later with Benny Carter . Between 1935 and 1938 he worked a. a. at Lucky Millinder and Cab Calloway . In 1938 he recorded with Teddy Wilson the tracks " With Thee I Swing ", " Who Loves You " and " Tea For Two ", played with Chu Berry (" Maelstrom ", 1937) and in the orchestra of Lionel Hampton . From 1940 to 1942 was in Ella Fitzgerald's band, in 1943 with Don Redman and from 1944 to 1948 he appeared with Edmond Hall in the New York Cafe Society (" Continental Blues ", 1945).

In the 1950s, Randolph recorded records with Pearl Bailey and played with various rhythm and blues orchestras and Latin bands; In 1955 he made a guest appearance at the Savoy Ballroom and from 1957 worked with Chick Morrison in New York.
