Raúl Iturria

Raúl Iturria Igarzábal (* 1935 in Las Cañas in the "13th Sección judicial", Durazno Department ) is a Uruguayan politician .

Raúl Iturria completed his school education at Escuela rural No. 61 as well as at the Liceo de Sarandí del Yí and the Liceo Departamental de Florida . He then studied law in Montevideo and finally earned a doctorate in law and social sciences. This was followed by post-graduate studies at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain . He then practiced the legal profession and worked as a consultant for ANCAP and the Banco Hipotecario del Uruguay . He is a member of the Rotary Club of Montevideo .

Iturria, a member of the Partido Nacional , was Uruguay's Interior Minister from November 10, 1993 to May 17, 1994. He then held a titular mandate as senator in the Cámara de Senadores in the 44th legislative period from February 15, 1995 to March 2, 1995 and again from October 18, 1998 to February 14, 2000 . In between he held the post of Defense Minister from March 1, 1995 to October 16, 1998. Iturria was also Intendente of the Durazno Department for two electoral terms .

Iturria published several books. Among them were "Tratado de Folklore" (2006), "Nuestro campo en dos visones" (2007) and "1958 El año en que cambió la historia", published in 2008.
