Raad-2 ( Persian رعد, German Donner ) is a self-propelled gun from Iranian production.
description
In September 1997 it became known that Iran had successfully tested a self-propelled gun from its own production called the Raad-2. The appearance shows a striking resemblance to the US 155 mm self-propelled howitzer of the type M109A2 . According to various sources, before the Islamic Revolution in 1979, 440 vehicles of the type were delivered from the USA to Iran. According to the state military industry organization , the Raad-2 has a high rate of fire, good off-road driving characteristics and very good accuracy. In addition, the tank has a rate of fire of five projectiles per minute and reaches 70 km / h. The crew consists of five men, the commander, the gunner, the driver and two gunners. The armor of the Raad-2 is made of rolled armor steel, the maximum thickness of which is 20 mm. This armor protects the occupants from shrapnel fragments and projectiles up to a caliber of 7.62 mm. According to the manufacturer, the Raad-2 self-propelled gun is equipped with an NBC protection system, night vision and GPS system and target optics for direct shooting.
