The Knorrpromenade in Berlin-Friedrichshain was built in 1911–1913 as a small avenue by the Friedrichsberger Bank in the middle of the workers' district in Boxhagen for wealthy citizens. Today, it is the only example of a bourgeois apartment building in Friedrichshain-preserved and is available as a complete ensemble under monument protection . It was named after the entrepreneur Georg Knorr , who was active in Boxhagen .
The Knorrpromenade was built on the site of the former Boxhagen-Rummelsburg plant. The development was individually tailored to the respective client. The small front gardens are particularly unusual for the district.
The street leads from Wühlischstraße to Krossener Straße. In World War II the building No. was. 6 in the north of Knorrpromenade completely destroyed. In its place there is now a football and skate field.
The ensemble included four decorative sandstone gates, two of which were located at the two entrances to the Knorr promenade. The gates on Krossener Strasse were completely destroyed in 1945 by a bomb attack in which around 40 people were killed. The gates on Wühlischstrasse were spared, weathered and fell into disrepair over time. In 2011 residents founded the KiezGestalten eV association, which campaigned with great commitment and effective media campaigns for the renovation of the last two remaining decorative gates. With private donations and financial resources from the Senate, these two decorative gates were completely refurbished on time for the 100th birthday of the residential complex and have been shining in their original splendor since November 2013. In 2018, KiezGestalten eV was able to initiate the reconstruction of the decorative gates at the end of the Knorr promenade that were destroyed in the war.
