Rabba (h) (Rabba bar Nachmani) was an important 3rd generation Amora in Babylonia .

He was the uncle of Abaje , from a family that traced back to the priest Eli, a student of Rab Huna in Sura and of Rab Jehuda in Pumbedita , successor of Rab Huna bar Chijja as the most important teacher, according to tradition also head for 22 years of the school at Pumbedita after Jehuda's death. He was probably never in Palestine; because of his sharp dialectics as a mountain uprooter (oqer harim, Berachot 64 a).

Rabbah was known for his large audience, reaching 12,000 in the kala months (Elul, Adar) ( Baba Mezia 86a).

He lived in poverty and died in 330 at the age of 40.
