Racer in Kennywood ( West Mifflin , Pennsylvania , USA ) is the name of two Möbius - wooden coasters that were opened in 1910 and the 1927th There are only three examples of this type worldwide.
history
Racer was originally built by Ingersoll Brothers in 1910 as a side friction roller coaster. It was a two-lane racing roller coaster that of John A. Miller was constructed and about 50,000 US dollars cost. At the time of opening, it was the largest racing roller coaster in the world. At that time two trains ran parallel to each other, but they had no wheels under the rails, which meant that the trains could lift off. Each train had three cars with space for six people each (three rows of two people). Racer was demolished in 1926 and replaced by the Kinderland.
The second racer was also designed by John Miller and built by Charile Mach. Since Kennywood liked the previous work of John Miller, he was commissioned again to construct a racing roller coaster. The train cost more than $ 75,000 because John Miller did not use the topography as effectively as he did with Jack Rabbit and Thunderbolt . The highest hill was built into a ravine, which meant that more wood was required. The trains of the new Racer also have wheels under the track, which made inclined curves and descents possible. In 1949 Andy Vettel removed the last hill from the railway.
Trains
Racer has four trains with four cars each. Six people (three rows of three people) can be seated in each car.
