Rachel Cavalho

Rachel Cavalho (* 1907 in Queensland , Australia ) was a Canadian pianist and music teacher.

Cavalho studied piano with Arthur Alexander , Louis Kentner , John Nowell and Priaulx Rainier in England and performed there and in Canada in concerts and on the radio. In 1948 she went to Canada and taught at the Hambourg Conservatory in Toronto.

At CBC she presented the weekly music programs Music for Young Musicians (1955–56) and Music for Young Pianists (1956–57). In 1968 she published the textbook Scale Patterns for Young Pianists and the publication Canadian piano music for teaching . In 1969 she recorded the Contemporary Canadian Music for Young Pianists for Waterloo BMI Recordings .

With the music educators Patricia Elliott , Ralph Elsaesser and Terry Levis and under the direction of the music producer Keith MacMillan , she founded the Contemporary Showcase in 1970 , a festival that is dedicated to the performance of contemporary (mainly Canadian) music for teaching purposes and for which more than fifty Canadian composers are now Have written works.
