Radar mechanic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A radar mechanic looks after and maintains radar devices and repairs them in the event of defects. Today he deals a lot with electronics and data processing, consequently the job title is listed together with the radar electronics technician at the Federal Employment Agency under one and the same number.

Maintaining radar equipment requires the safe use of computer technology, because diagnostic programs support the radar mechanic in troubleshooting. Many different categories of measuring equipment, such as oscilloscopes , frequency counters and signal generators, are used to locate the defective component, to replace it and to optimally match the new component. The handling of circuit diagrams and block diagrams must be mastered by the radar mechanic.

Radar mechanics often work in a two-shift system and begin their shift with a comprehensive functional check of the radar device. The maintenance work on a radar device is carried out according to a fixed schedule. Many components whose performance parameters decrease can already be identified and replaced during prophylactic maintenance.
