The cycling club "Endspurt" from 1905 e. V. Hamburg (short RV final spurt 05) is one of the oldest Hamburg cycling clubs. It was founded on March 11, 1905 in Hamburg-Altona . The club is a member of the Hamburg Cycling Association and the Association of German Cyclists (BDR).

history

The association was founded in 1905 in the then Prussian city of Altona - today a district of Hamburg - and entered in the Hamburg register of associations on March 6, 1924. Until the Second World War , its activities were primarily in the west of Hamburg. In the mid-1920s, the club had its own cycling track in Schnelsen . The club archive was lost in World War II. In the 1950s he was present in the public through the road race at the pond in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel, which was later relocated to Hamburg-Horn .

"Final spurt" achieved successes mainly in track cycling. Thus Werner Potzernheim 1950 and the following years several times German champion in sprint , won in 1952 for a club Hannover - Hamburg had no velodrome more - an Olympic bronze medal and was third in the 1953 Sprint at the World Cup . In the mid-80s, another driver from the club became German track master. At the end of the 1970s, the association pioneered the introduction of bicycle tours in northern Germany.

The association's activities have shifted to the east of Hamburg over the years. The number of members has fluctuated for many years between 100 and 200 and was 180 in 2009. The members practice cycling mainly as committed endurance athletes, in particular bike tourers, some also as cyclists , triathletes , cross and racing cyclists . Many members are active as randonneurs (long-distance riders ). The association organizes several bicycle tours (RTF). In addition to street and cross training, weather-protected training in the form of "spinning" took place during the winter months . There is no own clubhouse.
