Liberal University Association

The Liberal University Association (LHV) was founded in Mainz in April 1972 as the successor to the Liberal Student Union of Germany (LSD), which was lost in the turmoil of the student movement . His first federal board included Wolfgang Kubicki and Christoph Strässer .

From the beginning, the LHV pursued a decidedly left-wing policy at the universities and also entered into corresponding AStA coalitions, but remained a student association of the FDP until 1982 . After the break of the social-liberal federal government , he separated from the FDP in November 1982, as did the then FDP youth organization Young Democrats .

From the mid-1980s, a lengthy discussion about renaming the association began in the university groups. The main argument for this was that the previous name, due to its FDP association, had a rather deterrent effect on its own electorate. From 1988 the association called Radical Democratic Student Groups (RSG) - young democrats at the university .

After the collapse of the student umbrella organization VDS , the radical democratic student groups disbanded as a federal association in the early 1990s. Some of its former member groups have been working in what was then the Alliance of Left and Radical Democratic University Groups (LiRa) since 1998 and in 2007 they participated in the founding of the new university association Die Linke.SDS .
