Radio.fx (formerly ClipInc) is software for recording radio programs . According to Tobit, the further development of the software was discontinued on December 31, 2014. However, by continuing the content maintenance, use is still possible.

technology

The Radio.fx software can be used to record radio programs. Users can use it to receive and also record their radio programs independently of the station schedules. For example, a 30-second button ensures that you can briefly rewind the current radio program. With the so-called timeline, users can travel even further into the past of the radio program, because the software records the entire Internet radio stream. Recordings can then even be extracted as MP3 files from these streams. This can be music, but also comedy, news and radio plays that Radio.fx recognizes and marks within the recording. As a mashup software, Radio.fx enriches the information even further and links, for example, lyrics, album covers and music videos to the radio content being played.

Versions

Radio.fx Basic

This version can be downloaded free of charge from the manufacturer's website. With it you can record up to four radio stations at the same time and listen to the radio with this software regardless of the station schemes. For example, users can rewind and simply listen to news or music again. All radio content, such as radio plays or recorded songs, can be copied manually to the PC or removable storage device. For some time now, Radio.fx has also had a Facebook integration.

Radio.fx Pro

Radio.fx Pro is the paid version of Radio.fx. This is the full version, which among other things allows simultaneous recording of an unlimited number of channels. New features such as the creation of individual playlists, the integration of lyrics into the ID3 tags of the MP3 files as well as free, extended support and more are only available to users of the full version.

hr2 / SR / SWR / WDR radio recorder

The program is also offered as an OEM version under the name hr2-RadioRecorder, SR-RadioRecorder, SWR RadioRecorder and WDR RadioRecorder by the respective broadcasters.

The following stations are then preset:

  • for the hr2 radio recorder: hr2
  • for the SR radio recorder: 103.7 UnserDing, SR1, SR 2, SR 3
  • for the SWR RadioRecorder: SWR2
  • for the WDR RadioRecorder: 1Live, WDR2, WDR3, WDR4, WDR5, WDR Event, WDR KIRAKA, funkhaus europa, 1Live diggi

The range of functions corresponds to the basic version. This software is also available for Mac OS X.

Legal situation

The recording of radio programs is permitted. Copying and passing on for private purposes is also permitted.

The German artists benefit from the fees for the sale of storage media (e.g. audio cassettes, CD and DVD blanks) and storage devices (e.g. recorders, CD burners), which are paid by the “ Central Office for Private Transfer Rights "(ZPÜ) are driven.

distribution

According to Tobit.Software, more than 770,000 (as of June 28, 2009) active accounts are in use. The program has been downloaded over 840,000 times. The program is now available in five different languages. The software is also considered outside of the IT press. a. in the mirror as well as in the focus. Radio.fx broadcasts an average of 6,500 tracks per second. A total of over 388 580 000 000 (as of November 4, 2013) titles have already been published.

criticism

Music industry

The program is seen negatively, especially by the music industry. The program makes it possible to download or record a large variety of current and older songs fully automatically without any further effort. Even before the new copyright law to curb illegal music downloads, large record companies had campaigned for intelligent recording software to be banned.

Licensing policy

The free version of the program was gradually restricted with updates. At the beginning, any number of stations could be recorded at the same time. These familiar functions of the free version were later restricted by a mandatory update. Tobit Software justifies these steps with the costs incurred for the programming. In addition, some radios quickly reached their maximum audience limit, as the software became popular very quickly. During the last update from ClipInc.fx to Radio.fx, criticism of Tobit's handling of customers who had a license for the older ClipInc was loud. At the beginning it was claimed that ClipInc was intended as a parallel product to Radio.fx, but this was later revised.

General functionality

In practice, a majority of the StreamTags do not match the recorded soundtrack. This is currently the biggest negative point, but there is nothing the software developers can do about it. One possibility to at least exclude moderation and moderation is offered by radio stations that only broadcast songs in a row.

Channel list

The stations that can be selected from a list under Radio-Fx are determined and specified exclusively by Tobit. Channels cannot be added to the channel list manually. Some stations are removed from the list - sometimes at the request of the station themselves - although the station still exists.
