Alof de Wignacourt (* 1547 - 14 September 1622 ) was from February 10, 1601 until his death, the 54th Grand Master of the Order of Malta in Malta .

He was previously Pillier the tongue of Franzien .

During his reign of the order he had a number of coastal fortifications, the Wignacourt Towers , and an aqueduct , the Wignacourt Aqueduct , built to supply Valletta with water . His splendid armor can still be seen today in Valletta's former armory .

The painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio , whose picture “The Beheading of John the Baptist” can be seen today in St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, was his protégé .

Emperor Ferdinand II appointed Wignacourt as the first Grand Master to be the “Most Serene Highness”.
