Radio Farda ( Persian رادیو فردا) is a radio broadcaster from Prague that broadcasts in Persian . فردا Farda means 'tomorrow' in Persian. It is a joint project between Voice of America and Radio Liberty for Iran . Radio Farda covers a wide range of political and cultural topics, which are put together with a focus on Iran.

The station is funded by the US government . Access to the broadcaster's website has been blocked repeatedly by the Iranian authorities.

Distribution channels

Radio Farda's main terrestrial frequency for Iran is medium wave 1575 kHz. It is broadcast with an 800 kW broadcaster of the state-owned Abu Dhabi Media . The company charges an annual rent of $ 2.4 million. Jammers on the frequency, presumably of Iranian origin, with a characteristic siren sound can sometimes be heard as far as Central Europe.

Radio Farda has had its own medium wave transmitter in Kuwait since 2010. The 600 kW system, which was in use for the Voice of America in Rhodes until 2006 , cannot be used due to political disagreements with Kuwait.

Raido Farda broadcasts around the clock on shortwave from the transmitters in Kuwait and Hesse.
