Radio Nord was Sweden's second commercial radio broadcaster . It operated from March 8, 1961 to June 20, 1962.

The transmitting station was the ship MS Bon Jour , which was in international waters . The operator of the station was the Finnish-Swedish producer Jack S. Kotschak. The broadcasts had to be stopped after the Swedish parliament passed a law (“Piratradiolagen”) against unlicensed stations.

Radio Nord broadcasted exclusively on medium wave . News, sports reports, music and advertising were broadcast . The broadcasts could be heard in large parts of Sweden due to the increased range of medium wave at night.

The first legally commercially operated radio station in Sweden was Radio Syd , which began broadcasting in 1958 and broadcast on FM in southern Sweden.

In other European countries there are other stations with the name Radio Nord . So in Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands (see RTV Noord ) and South Tyrol. Radio Merkurs from Latvia was previously called Radio Nord.
