The Radsportgemeinschaft (RSG) Ansbach is one of the larger cycling clubs in Bavaria .

At the RSG, cycling is carried out in five departments, namely cycling , cycling , cycling , mountain biking and triathlon / duathlon . In addition, the RSG Ansbach offers annual sporting events and a bicycle bazaar for used bicycles.

history

On May 30, 1981, the cycling community in Ansbach was founded by 12 people interested in cycling. In the first year of its existence, a cycle race was held in Ansbach for the city championship, in which 144 athletes took part. In the following year, a popular cycling event took place for the first time, which was well received with around 700 participants. This was followed by the first bike tour “Through the Frankenhöhe Nature Park”. The smooth organization of previous cycling races by the RSG Ansbach was honored in 1987 by the Bavarian Cycling Association by awarding the North Bavarian Road Championships.

In 1990 the club again hosted the North Bavarian Championships. In the same year he founded the cycling Bundesliga team "Franken" together with Fürth and Strullendorf. In addition to popular cycling, the Ansbach triathlon, bike tour, mountain bike races and a cross duatlon have established themselves as RSG events. After the foundation of the Bundesliga team “Bavaria” in 1993, together with the RSG Augsburg and the RC “Die Schwalben” Munich , the RSG Ansbach achieved the greatest successes. She won the most important series of German cycling races (Bundesliga) in the amateur field , was German champion in the four-man team time trial and had the third German champion in single road driving in her ranks. In 1994 Jörg Jaksche became German champion in the juniors' single road race, after having become vice world champion in this class the previous year. The Bundesliga team defended their previous year's victories in the overall Bundesliga standings as well as their four-man title.

In order to be able to let the athletes start in front of a local audience, the RSG organized the first Ansbach Old Town Criterion. In 1995, Ansbach was the first stage of the international cycling tour of Bavaria . RSGler were mainly involved in setting up the infrastructure. In 1997 stars of the professional cycling scene were guests in Ansbach. With the RC Germania Weißenburg two criteria were organized in the two cities, with Erik Zabel winning the race in Weißenburg.

Also with the Weißenburgers, the club organized the "Franconian Seenland Cup" in 1998, which consisted of three circuit races. Among others, the professional teams Telekom, Mapei and Nürnberger were at the start.

In 2000 the Germany Tour stopped in Ansbach; In 2001 the Bavarian Tour came to Ansbach. Erik Zabel won the stages in Ansbach both times. The RSG Ansbach used the day's stop of the Bavarian Tour to organize junior bike races on the home straight. The last major cycling race to be held in Ansbach was again the Germany tour in 2003. In these stage races, RSGler and other clubs were used to set up and support the respective organizers.
