Junior Lecturer

The junior lecturer is a position in the teaching staff of a Baden-Württemberg university . This position in the group of university teachers was introduced in 2007 with an amendment to the State University Act (Amendment Act of November 7, 2007). Job holders carry the official title "junior lecturer". The office serves to prepare young scientists for a so-called teaching professorship .

Since the winter semester 2009/10 (from October 1, 2009), the first junior lectureships have primarily been employed at universities of education in the state of Baden-Württemberg (e.g. junior lecturer for physical education & sport ).

Junior lecturers are initially employed for 4 years as civil servants or employees. Civil servants are classified in salary group W 1 under state law ; Salaried employees are accordingly employed outside the collective bargaining agreement. An evaluation takes place after two years . The term of office ends after six years, but under certain conditions it can be converted into a university professorship .

According to their status, junior lecturers are lecturers within the meaning of the law. You belong to the group of university teachers , which also includes professors and junior professors.

In addition to the junior professorship, the junior professorship is intended to promote young academics; in junior lectureships, the emphasis is not on research but on teaching. Junior lecturers should receive a higher teaching load than junior professors (usually four hours per week ). This is at the discretion of the university and will be determined upon appointment.
