The Radziwiłł Chronicle ( Russian Радзивилловская летопись , Radsiwillowskaja letopis ; English Radzivill Chronicle ) is an Old Russian chronicle from the early 13th century. The text is preserved in two manuscripts from the 15th century.

content

The Radziwiłł Chronicle tells the history of the Kievan Rus from the 5th to the 13th centuries. It reproduces the text of the Nestor Chronicle and continues it for the years 1116 to 1206.

Radziwiłł manuscript

The chronicle is reproduced in the Radziwiłł manuscript (or Königsberg manuscript ) from the 15th century. It contains 617 impressive colored miniatures that illustrate the text. These represent interesting details from everyday life in Kievan Rus and possibly go back to templates from the 11th century.

In the 17th century the manuscript was owned by Janusz Radziwiłł , Grand Hetman of Lithuania . In 1671 she came to Königsberg . After Petersburg it got probably during the Seven Years' War (1758?). The first printed edition appeared in Petersburg in 1767.

Today it is in the library of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg.

Handwriting of the Moscow Spiritual Academy

The text of the Radziwiłł Chronicle is also reproduced in the manuscript of the Moscow Spiritual Academy ( Рукопись Московской Духовной Академии ) from the 15th century. This continues the text for the period up to 1419.
