Dietrich Freydank

Dietrich Freydank (born June 29, 1928 in Friedersdorf bei Bitterfeld , † October 5, 1999 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German Slavist .

Life

Dietrich Freydank studied Slavic, German and Indo-European studies at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and received his doctorate in 1957 with the thesis "The place names of the Bitterfeld district". In 1969 he received his habilitation there with the thesis "Leitwort bei AM Kurbskij". In 1981 he became an associate professor in the linguistic and literary studies department of the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1992 he was appointed full professor for Slavic philology there. In 1990/91 he held a visiting professorship at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. In 1994 he retired.

His research interests ranged from Slavic onomastics and linguistic problems in contemporary Russian to Slavic language history, Old Bulgarian Studies, Old Russian literature and source research.

In addition to the monographs listed below, Dietrich Freydank published numerous essays and reviews on Slavic philology, mainly in the Zeitschrift für Slawistik .
