Konrad Onasch

Konrad Onasch (born August 4, 1916 in Danzig ; † October 3, 2007 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German church historian who worked primarily at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . Onasch became known, among other things, for his studies of icons, of the denominations of the Orthodox churches and his interpretations of Dostoevsky. In a review, Christoph Schmidt called Onasch the "undoubtedly most productive Eastern Church historian of his generation".

Life

In 1952 Konrad Onasch founded the "Institute for Denominational Studies of the Orthodox Churches" at the Halle Theological Faculty together with the church historian Kurt Aland . 1954 traveled Onasch as part of a well-known Delegation (u. A. With Gustav Heinemann , Kurt Aland and Herbert Mochalski ) at the invitation of Russian Patriarch Alexy I. to Moscow. Onasch headed the Eastern Church Institute of the Theological Faculty in Halle until his retirement in 1981.

Hermann Goltz was a student of Onasch .
