Christoph Schmidt (historian)

Christoph Schmidt (born February 10, 1954 in Bielefeld ) is a German historian . He is Professor and Head of the Department of Eastern European History at the Historical Institute of the University of Cologne .

Life

Schmidt studied history and Slavic studies in Mainz , Berlin and Leningrad . In 1984 he received his doctorate from the University of Mainz. In 1994 he completed his habilitation at the University of Cologne. From 1996 he was a professor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , and since 2000 he has been a professor at the University of Cologne.

He is editor of the online journal of the Cologne Forum for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe New Eastern Europe (NOE) and co-editor of the Yearbooks for the History of Eastern Europe (JGO).
