Rafael Biermann

Rafael Biermann (* 1964 in Bielefeld ) is a German political scientist .

Life

From 1990 to 1991 he worked in the Political Analysis department at the Federal Chancellery . After receiving his doctorate in 1997 in political science (major), history and German literature (minor) at the University of Bonn , he was head of the central work area in the planning staff of the Federal Minister of Defense from 1997 to 1999. After completing his Habilitation in Political Science in Bonn in 2004 , he was Visiting Professor at the Department for National Security Affairs (NSA), School of International Graduate Studies at the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey from 2006 to 2009 . He has been a professor since 2010and head of the chair for international relations at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena .

His main research interests are inter-organizational cooperation and network building, security governance in Europe, domestic, v. a. ethnonationalist conflicts, secessionism, international conflict management, v. a. Prevention and mediation and regional focus: Southeast Europe, Caucasus, USA and transatlantic relations.
