France-IX

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

France-IX is an Internet hub in Paris . It was founded in June 2010 as a membership organization. It connects more than 420 networks, which makes it the largest Internet node in France.

history

Raphael Maunier (worked for Neo Telecoms) and Maurice Dean (worked for Google ) came up with the idea of founding France-IX in Dublin in 2008 . The Internet node, initially called PhoenIX, went online in December 2008. Christian Kaufmann (works for Akamai ) and Nicolas Strina (works for Jaguar Network) joined the initiative.

Following the presentation, a survey was sent to the Internet networking community. The results of this survey were presented during FRnOG 14 in June 2009. Since then, the working group has received official financial and logistical support from Jaguar Network, Google, Akamai, Interxion and Neo Telecoms and has been renamed France-IX.

The first international presentation of the project took place at RIPE 59 in Lisbon .
