Ragnhild Fabricius Gjellerup

Ragnhild Louise Kathrine Dorothea Lindegaard Smidt Fabricius Gjellerup (* 25. March 1896 in Copenhagen ; † 29. October 1958 in Skodsborg , Denmark ) was a Danish lawyer who in 1922 at the University of Copenhagen her studies in law graduated. In 1934 she became the first woman in Denmark to be appointed judge .

Ragnhild Louise Kathrine Dorothea Lindegaard Smidt Fabricius was the daughter of Christiane Hansine Juliette Knudsen (1860-1924) and her husband Carl Christian Smidt Fabricius (1855-1942). In 1922 Ragnhild Fabricius married the wholesaler Holger Otto Gjellerup (1883–1959).

She remained connected to the court in Copenhagen (Byret) throughout her professional life . In 1923 she started there as a secretary. In 1934 she became the first woman in Denmark to be appointed judge . Her subsequent wives such as Karen Johnsen , Bodil Dybdal or Helga Pedersen were all unmarried. For many years, Ragnhild Fabricius Gjellerup remained the country's only married judge. Her specialty was inheritance law .

During the occupation of Denmark by Nazi Germany , Fabricius Gjellerup was deputy chairwoman of the association Danske Kvinders Samfundstjeneste (for example: Community service of Danish women). She organized the distribution of food and clothing in the years of want. In 1952 she was elected to the board of the Danish animal welfare organization (Foreningen til Dyrenes Beskyttelse). She was one of the first women to receive the Danish Order of Merit Dannebrogorden after Justice Minister Helga Pedersen made it possible for them to be awarded to women.

Ragnhild Fabricius Gjellerup died at the age of 62 on October 29, 1958 in Skodsborg, north of Copenhagen .
