Ragusa Superiore
Ragusa Superiore (Upper Town) is a district of the city of Ragusa in the Italian region of Sicily . It is located on a hill in the west of the city and was laid out soberly and strictly geometrically in the 18th century.
A large part of the urban population lives in Ragusa Superiore today. The city's administrative buildings are also located here.
Buildings
The Cathedral of San Giovanni , the city's cathedral, was built between 1706 and 1760 and is dedicated to San Giovanni Battista , the patron saint of Ragusa Superiore. The interior is divided into three naves and decorated with valuable stucco work. There is a tall campanile next to the cathedral .
The Museo Archeologico Ibleo shows prehistoric , Greek and Roman finds from the area around the city.
The Chiesa Santa Maria delle Scale , a 13th century church, was destroyed by the 1693 earthquake and then rebuilt. It is named after a long staircase (scala) with 242 steps that leads from here to the lower town of Ragusa Ibla .
