history

In the early 1950s, the Böhme Fettchemie company brought the Paral brand onto the German market. In 1963 the Paral brand was sold to the Thompson Group ; this has been owned by the US company SC Johnson & Son since 1992 . Since 2007, SC Johnson & Son has renamed the Paral brand to Raid as part of its international standards and improved international recognition value .

The old Austrian brand tus was also taken over, in 2013 the products in Austria were still called tus / Raid, since 2014 only Raid. The old advertising slogan "Tus puts an end to annoying insects" became a phrase in Austria .

Active ingredients

The Paral powder originally contained dangerous and questionable ingredients such as DDT and lindane . Nowadays, modern pyrethroids ( prallethrin , phenothrin ) are included instead . Pyrethroids act as contact poisons in insects, irreversibly blocking the voltage-dependent sodium channels in the nerve membranes so that they cannot be closed again from the open state. Blocking the sodium channels leads to spastic paralysis of the insects and a rapid immobilizing effect that occurs before death and is known as " knockdown ". Pyrethroids should be used extremely restrictively indoors. Aquariums, terrariums or animal cages should be covered or removed before use.
