history

Raiffeisen Lebensversicherung AG was founded on June 17, 1969 by the Austrian Raiffeisen banking group. On January 1, 1970, life insurance business started. In 1975 the company entered the accident insurance division. In the 1980s it was decided to offer car insurance as well.

From 1990 onwards, Raiffeisen Versicherung was one of the 10 largest insurers in Austria. In 1993, the Raiffeisen banking group acquired the majority in Bundesländer-Versicherung. Raiffeisen Versicherung becomes their subsidiary. Both companies (federal states and Raiffeisen Versicherung) retained their independence. Also in 1993, Raiffeisen Versicherung became Austria's largest life insurer for the first time. The leap to the top was achieved again in 1997 and until 2000 the bank insurer led the ranking of life insurers according to premium volume in uninterrupted order. In 1997, BARC-Gesellschaft is founded as a group holding company from the federal states, Austria, Raiffeisen and Collegialität insurance. In March 1998, the Supervisory Board decided to restructure the BARC Group and expand Raiffeisen Versicherung to become an all-line insurer. On November 5, 1999, the restructured BARC Group launched under UNIQA.

From April 2000, Raiffeisen Versicherung offered its own property insurance for private customer business (with the exception of Styria).

On October 1, 2016, Raiffeisen Versicherung AG merged with Uniqa Österreich Versicherung. The “Raiffeisen Versicherung” brand will be retained as a sales brand.
