Raigardas Valley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raigardas Valley (lit. Raigardo slėnis ) is a valley five kilometers south of the Lithuanian spa town of Druskininkai , on the right bank of the Nemunas . One part of the valley is a protected landscape area (10.71 km²). The total area of the valley is 14 km². The Kubilnyčia flows here. There are two lakes in the valley: Dvarnas near Pervalka and Nemunykštis near the village of Švendubrė . Raigardas Valley was formed about 5000 years ago with the increasing and urging current of the Nemunas River to the right. The picturesque Raigardas Valley cast a spell over the future artist Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis . He also went to these places as an adult to find inspiration for his work in nature.
