Raimund Berengar II (Barcelona)
Raimund Berengar II. , El Cap d'Estopes (dt. The flat head), (* 1053/54; † December 5, 1082 in La Perxa de l'Astor, Montnegre) was Count of Barcelona from 1076 .
Raimund Berengar was a son of Raimund Berengars I , Count of Barcelona and his third wife Almodis († 1071), daughter of Bernard I , Count of La Marche. He followed the late father in 1076 together with the twin brother Berengar Raimund II as Count of Barcelona.
He was killed on a hunting expedition on December 5, 1082, according to general (unproven) belief at the behest of his brother; the one who became the sole count was given the nickname el fratricidi (fratricide).
Marriage and children
In 1078 he married Mathilde, the daughter of Robert Guiskard (1015-1085), with whom he had the following children:
- Almodis of Barcelona (around 1078, † around 1140)
- Mathilde of Barcelona
- Raimund Berengar III. (Barcelona)
After his death, Mathilde married the Vice Count of Narbonne , Aimery I († 1105).
