The Rainbowflash (also called Rainbow Flashmob ) is an international event against homophobia . Every year since 2008, on May 17th ( International Day against Homophobia, Interphobia and Transphobia ), people have met in many cities to raise colorful balloons with messages against homophobia and transphobia into the sky.

history

The second Rainbowflash took place on May 17, 2009 in Saint Petersburg , Chelyabinsk , Minsk , Novosibirsk , Moscow, Hamburg, Toronto, Berlin and 20 other cities. In Yekaterinburg , the demonstrators were attacked by 20 masked people.

In 2010 and 2011 the number of cities in which there were actions rose to over 50 in more than 10 countries.

In 2012 there were campaigns in 20 cities in Germany alone. 400 people gathered in Dresden and 800 people in Hamburg.

In 2013 campaigns took place in around 50 countries. After the introduction of the laws against “homosexual propaganda” in Russia , the Rainbowflash 2013 was again increasingly prepared and carried out clandestinely. In Saint Petersburg the event took place under police observation and without the usual rainbow flags .

On June 18, 2013, LSVD Hamburg eV was honored for organizing the Rainbowflash as part of the “ Active for Democracy and Tolerance ” competition and received 3,000 euros from the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance .
