The blue sheep was created by action artist Rainer Bonk , Rheinberg , in 2001 as a serial work of art . Rainer Bonk and his former partner, the painter and action artist Bertamaria Reetz, have used the blue sheep in numerous city events as part of the project "The Blue Peace Herd" as a symbol of tolerance and peaceful coexistence far beyond the borders of Germany. The work of art made of thin-walled polyester with ultramarine blue acrylic paint (after Yves Klein ) is about 60 cm high, 80 cm long and 30 cm thick. It weighs about 8 kg. Material and color are weatherproof and lightfast, but not unbreakable. Each copy is only genuine with the word / image mark "Blauschäferei Reetz" or "Blauschäferei" on the bottom. There are also thumb-sized mini blue sheep and lambs.
