Rainer Brus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rainer Brus (French Renier Brus , in Latin documents also Rainerius de Bruso, Rainerius Brus, Rainerius Brusco, Reinerius Brusch, Ranerus Bruns ; † after February 5, 1138) was Lord of Banias as a vassal of the Prince of Galilee in the Kingdom of Jerusalem .

Rainer Brus received the Banias as a hereditary fiefdom around 1128 after the assassins had ceded the rule to King Baldwin II . Rainer had previously held the Assebebe rule, which was merged with Banias.

Rainer was married twice. His first wife was captured by Muslims around 1133 when troops from Damascus conquered the city of Banias during Rainer's absence. Shortly after she was released in 1135, Rainer let her enter a monastery after he was told that she had been raped while in captivity. After her death, he married Agnes von Bures, daughter of Wilhelm I. von Bures , Prince of Galilee, who married Gerhard von Sidon after Rainer's death .

In the following years the crusaders succeeded in retaking Banias around 1137/38, whereupon the rule was returned to Rainer. He was last mentioned in a document on February 5, 1138 (as still alive).

From his first marriage he had a daughter who married Humfried II of Toron , who succeeded Rainer in the reign of Banias.
