Rainer Dorwarth

Rainer Dorwarth (actually Georg Rainer Dorwarth; born October 3, 1924 in Welver ; † March 2, 2015 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German artist .

Rainer Dorwarth was born in Welver / Westphalia in 1924 . After finishing school in Hamm / Westphalia, he was called up for military service. After the end of the war he spent a considerable amount of time in Soviet captivity.

From 1949 he studied with Rudolf Dischinger and Adolf Strübe at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Freiburg im Breisgau. He then spent six months in the André Lhote studio in Paris. Since 1953 Rainer Dorwarth has been working in his own studio in Freiburg-Herdern. From 1968 to 1980 Rainer Dorwarth was managing director of the Professional Association of Visual Artists in South Baden. He was with the painter and weaver Adelheid Dorwarth, geb. Bosch, married with whom he has six children.

Rainer Dorwarth created church windows, building art , wall paintings, mosaics, woodcuts, drawings, watercolors and oil paintings as well as sgraffiti . His early work was largely influenced by the work of the Parisian late Cubist André Lhote, while he was always committed to Adolf Strübe's expressive objectivity . Several churches in southern Baden have art glazing by Rainer Dorwarth, such as the parish church of St. Katarina in Gütenbach or the chapel of the Catholic Academy in Freiburg.
