Ralf Paul Bittner

Ralf Paul Bittner (born November 27, 1966 in Arnsberg ) is a German politician ( SPD ). In February 2018 he won the election as mayor of the city of Arnsberg.

Life

Bittner grew up in the Arnsberg district of Oeventrop . After graduating from high school in 1986 at Laurentianum , he first trained as a dental technician and later trained with the police . From 1996 to 1998 he studied at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia with a degree in administrative management (FH) .

In 1986 he joined the SPD . Before his candidacy for mayor in 2018, he had been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in Arnsberg for six years.

After the resignation of the mayor of Arnsberg, Hans-Josef Vogel, due to his move to the office of regional president, a new election for this office was held on February 4, 2018, after which Bittner was only behind the candidate Peter Erb, supported by the CDU and the Greens. However, since an absolute majority was required, which none of the candidates achieved, the runoff election took place on February 18, 2018. Bittner won this with 55.42 percent of the votes.

On October 30, 2019, Bittner, together with numerous other politicians, condemned anti-Semitic property damage to street signs in Arnsberg.

Bittner is married to his wife Anna Louisa Bittner and has seven children.
