Nova Era

The Ramal de Nova Era , formerly called Ramal São José da Lagoa , is a historic railway line in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. It was built as a siding to the EFCB - Linha do Centro railway line for Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil .

history

Overview of the Linha Central railway line and branch lines of the EFCB

The railway siding of Nova Era / São José da Lagoa was built in 1908 by the railway company EF Espirito Santo a Minas and was called Estrada de Ferro Sabará a Santa Bárbara. A little later this railway line went to Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil and received its current name. In any case, in Nova Era this railway line met the route network of the EFVM, which was taken over by the mining company Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) in the 1980s . Today this railway line is only used for tourist purposes.
