Rambynas
The Rombinus (Lithuanian Rambynas or Rambyno kalnas ) is a hill in present-day Lithuania . The hill is located in the historic Memelland region in the East Prussian province of Germany until 1945 . It was a ritually significant hill of the pagan Schalauer before their Christianization by the Teutonic Order in the 13th century. It lies in a bend in the Memel near Ragnit (Russian: Neman ). Washed under by the Memel, parts of the hill are sometimes removed. The height is now almost 46 meters. Solstice festivals have been and are celebrated here.
The Rombinus plays a central role in Johannes Bobrowski's story Lithuanian Claviere , which is about the conflicts of 1936.
In 1991, the remains were in Jonaten (lit. Jonaičiai) born and 1953 in the 1886 Detmold late Prussian-Lithuanian teacher, poet, philosopher, humanist and Theosophen Wilhelm Storost Vydūnas from Detmold to Bitenen / Bitthenen (lit. Bitėnai) transferred and buried. His grave is now in the immediate vicinity of Rombinius.
