Ramon Brugada

Ramon Brugada (also Ramon Brugada-Terradellas , * 1966 in Banyoles ) is a Spanish cardiologist . He is significantly involved in research into the molecular-biological basis of inherited cardiac arrhythmias , u. a. familial atrial fibrillation , short QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome . Brugada syndrome (also Brugada-Brugada syndrome ) is a rare and mostly inherited ion channel disease of the heart that can lead to sudden cardiac death, usually in early adulthood, in people with apparently completely healthy hearts . It was described by Ramon's older brothers Pedro and Josep Brugada in 1992 .

Life

Ramon Brugada was the last of four children of Ramon Brugada (1925–1999) and Pepita Brugada, b. Terradellas, born.

Ramon finished his medical studies in Spain in 1990 and went to the USA in 1992 to become a cardiologist there. After various positions as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston (Texas), Associate Professor of Medicine at Unstate University Medical Center in Syracuse (New York) and Director of Molecular Genetics Program at Masonic Medical Research Laboratory in Utica (New York) ) He is currently (as of 2007) Director of Clinical Cardiovascular Genetics Center at the Montreal Heart Institute and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Université de Montréal in Montreal . He has received numerous awards for his work.
