Ran Hirschl

Ran Hirschl (* 1963 in Israel ) is an Israeli constitutional lawyer and political scientist.

Hirschl studied political science at Tel Aviv University and, on a Fulbright scholarship, from Yale University , where he received his doctorate in 1999. He became Professor of Political Science and Law at the University of Toronto , where he had held a Canada Research Chair since 2006. In 2016 he took up a Humboldt Professorship at the Georg-August University in Göttingen .

He is an internationally renowned expert on comparative constitutional law and examines, among other things, the political and religious influence on constitutional courts in various countries. He is working on a book on constitutional problems in mega-cities.

He was also visiting scholar at Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, and New York University.

In 2014 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada .
