Rand Refinery (Pty), founded in Germiston in 1920, is the most important precious metal refinery in the world.

history

Since the company was founded in August 1920, she says she has divorced 50,000 tons of gold . This corresponds to an affinage of approximately 30% of all gold deposits ever found on the whole earth . Furthermore, the company has the sole right to mint the Krugerrand investment and Kurant coin on behalf of the South African state . The company's shares are held (2019) by five company holdings : AngloGold Ashanti 42.41%, Harmony Gold Mining 10%, DRDGOLD 11.3%, Sibanye Gold 33.15% and Gold Fields Operations 2.76%.

An inventory after the conversion of the computer system within the company in 2014 showed a shortfall in the item gold inventory of 2.7 tons. This shortfall corresponds to an equivalent of 85 million euros.
