Sibanye Gold Limited (branded as: Sibanye-Stillwater ) is a South African mining company that is the country's largest gold producer (ahead of AngloGold Ashanti , Harmony Gold and Gold Fields ). It is also one of the 10 largest gold producers in the world and currently the third largest platinum and palladium producer in the world. In 2017, Sibanye Gold operated five gold mines in the Witwatersrand and one in the Free State . In 2017, 43.6 tons of gold were extracted. The company also mines platinum and palladium in South Africa (Rustenburg) and the USA (Stillwater). A large recycling facility for the recovery of PGM metals is also maintained in the United States. The company also owns uranium in South Africa, which is currently not being mined.

history

The company was founded in November 2012 as a subsidiary of Gold Fields and was floated on the stock exchange in 2013. In September 2015, Anglo American sold three of its South African platinum mines to Sibanye Gold.

Since 2016, after the takeover of the US company Stillwater Mining , the company has appeared as Sibanye-Stillwater . In 2017 Sibanye-Stillwater made an offer to purchase platinum and palladium producer Lonmin , which would make the company the second largest platinum and palladium (PGM) producer in the world. The acquisition was completed in June 2019.
